Bait Al-Othman made historical society HQ

Published Date: May 03, 2011

KUWAIT: Kuwaiti historic documents scholar and head of the Kuwaiti Heritage Voluntary Team Anwar Al-Rafaei revealed yesterday that Bait Al-Othman, a Kuwaiti historic site, will be made the team's headquarters. He also announced a correction of an issue date of an approved historic document which stated that the state of Kuwait came into existence in 1613, not 1611.

Scholar Anwar Al-Rafaei said that "we, the Kuwaiti Heritage team, welcome anyone who owns a document or evidence related to Kuwait's history to hand it to us." "Submitted evidences and documents would be checked for validity, historically and scientifically, under the supervision of Kuwait Voluntary Work Center of the Council of Ministers, headed by Sheikh Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, in cooperation with Kuwait's Heritage Voluntary team to preserve all inherited antiquities, whether they be tangible or intang
ible," Al-Rafaei added.

He also remarked that Kuwait National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (KNCCL) allocated Bait Al-Othman, one of the most important heritage places in the country and an embodiment of the history of Kuwaiti architecture in the 40s to the 60s, as a headquarters for Kuwait's Heritage Voluntary Team. The heritage team will, then, turn Bait Al-Othman into a general and comprehensive museum for Kuwaiti heritage, he added.

He appealed to all private and public government bodies to contribute with what antiques they have to enrich the museum's collection. "We work as one team and we call on all who are interested in Kuwaiti marine and land heritage to join in and contribute with any Kuwaiti historic related documents, papers, books, cards, photos or antiques," Al-Rafaei noted.

The Kuwaiti Heritage Voluntary Team included a group of volunteers that have a great experience and knowledge in Kuwait history. Those volunteers are Saleh Al-Mesbah, Hani Al-Asossi, Mohammad Kemal, Noah Al-Asfour, Essa Al-Loughani, Saleh Al-Muthen, Abdullah Al-Hafez, Ali Rays, Adnan Al-Jalahma and Jamal Al-Refaei.

Two of the houses and the Diwan (men's gathering place in Gulf culture) of Bait Al-Othman, which consists of four houses, will be turned into museum and will be opened to the public soon. Al-Raefai added that Bait Al-Othman belongs to the late poet and scholar Abdullah Abdullatif Al-Othman. The house, which has been preserved by KNCCL, was built in the late 1940s. It is spread over an area of 9454 sq meters and consists of 157 rooms, 16 kitchens and 61 bathrooms. --- KUNA
